Thermal Spas
Thermal Spas in Germany
Are you longing to spend time relaxing in a spa or sauna letting your worries drift away for a short period of time?
Germany is one of the places to visit if you enjoy a good day out using a spa + sauna etc/
As I love a good spa and my husband really enjoys the benefits of a good sauna we decided to check out a few thermal spas on our travels.
We had found a Roman Bath in Greece after searching for a while! We were so excited to have finally found it and I got my swimmers on and rushed over to the Bath for my swim. To our disappointment, it was just a shower and we stunk for days afterward!
The first proper Thermal Spa we actually stumbled upon by accident as it is right by free overnight parking for campervans in Titisee, Germany which is a beautiful little town by a lake near the Black Forest.
We couldn't believe what we were seeing as we walked into the building and found it confusing at first as there are 3 different sections, but it still didn't take us long to try out the spa and different pools on offer!
Locker System
When you arrive at these thermal spa's you receive a wristband with a chip in it. The best one was in Titisee as it had the number of your locker on there
This opens/locks your locker as well as opens the gates and keeps a record of anything you buy during the day so you don't need any money with you. Handy especially at the swim up bar for buying cocktails! Do remember you have to pay for them on the way out!
In Baden-Baden, you had to pick a locker and remember the number you chose!
At Aachen, you were given a token and went through to small lockers where you found the wristbands in the doors. Whichever one you chose you pulled the band out.
This had a key to open a bigger locker for your clothes. With the key it was more uncomfortable + you were worried about losing the token all day.
Badeparadies Schwarzwald
Badeparadies Schwarzwald has something for all age groups and tastes starting with a wave pool and water slides in the first section which we tried out on our full day visit for some fun! and relaxation.
My favourite out of them all was the Palm Oasis with the lay in spa's and swim up bar inside and out. It is so relaxing especially in the outside section when it is not too cold. Also, the wellness pools were enjoyable and felt so good and supposed to help you with different health problems
Nevilles favourite was the sauna's upstairs especially when there were Special infusions happening every half an hour which helped him to really veg out & relax -unwind out while there.
Clothing is not permitted upstairs in any of these sauna's which came as a surprise the first time we saw the sign however we soon got used to it.
It seemed strange sitting at a pool bar upstairs ordering a drink with no swimmers on!
Parking is so easy here and we had it good as we had free parking with the camper van overnight very close by so afterword's it was a small walk to our bed.

Caracalla Spa
The next Spa we decided to try was Caracalla Spa in Baden-Baden. Unfortunately. our camper would not fit in their car park so we found a park nearby in a dentist/doctors car park so we were not as relaxed going in as we were in Titisee
We had a great time here trying out the Whirlpool for the first time and loved the spa pools there!
I was disappointed there was no swim up bar. When I ordered a cocktail off their list at the restaurant I was told they were not available at all.
However, we did have a nice time there relaxing.
Do you prefer to relax in a spa or sauna ?
Carolus Thermal Baths Aachen
I must admit we did have a lovely time here with the various pools and spas to relax in etc. We again could not fit into their car park, however, we found a park in the street easy enough and just outside the door.
The annoying part of this place is to use the sauna area upstairs it is double the price not just a few Euro extra like the other 2 so I stayed downstairs for the day while Nev went between the 2 floors during our stay.
I loved the really hot pool here tucked away in a corner with a water jet that made you feel like 5 people are massaging you at the same time! There was a whirlpool here as well which I had some fun in between spa's!
There are plunge pools to cool you down and it is lovely getting back in the hot pool afterwards.
We enjoyed a meal & drink upstairs during the day which was reasonably priced and delicious, but we had been spoilt by going to Titisee first where they had the swim up bar which we had taken advantage of while there !.
