Top 10 Worst Displays of Rude Mobile Phone Etiquitte

Cell Phone Ettiquette

Are you guilty of having bad mobile phone etiquette or are you one of the ones that know when not to use the phone for texting or talking while in public places , driving etc ?

As it can be very serious , a matter of life or death in cases here are the top ten worst cell phone etiquette examples

Don't text while driving

What message is so important that it is worth dying for or going to jail because of you killing someone else on the road ?

How many times do people need to be told DO NOT TEXT AND DRIVE - YOU CAN KILL SOMEONE and sadly many have died on the road due to some inconsiderate person texting while driving rather than pulling over to the side of the road or waiting till they arrive at their destination .

In 2009 alone just in the U.S 5,474 people were killed due to accidents that involved distracted driving. Another 448,000 were injured.

  • 995 involved reports of a cell phone as a factor. However, the number of fatalities caused by cell phone use could be much higher. For those who were injured, 24,000 involved reports of cell phone use as a distraction.
  • The 30- to 39-year-old age group had the highest percentage of cell phone use in fatal crashes so it is not just the young at fault here .

Never have phone on during a funeral

I really find it hard to believe that people would have their mobile phone on during a funeral as it shows so much disrespect for the family & friends of the deceased but it has been known to happen apparentlyand is very upsetting.

Real examples of Extreme bad manners

While attending a funeral this weekend, the man seated across from me ordered a pizza for pick-up on his way home from the funeral. There is never a good time to have this, or any, phone conversation at a funeral, but his timing was terrible. Just as we bowed our heads for a moment of silence and prayer, we heard, “large with pepperoni and mushrooms please.” Well, at least he said please.

One example of when not to use technology would be the actions of a newspaper reporter attending the funeral of a three-year old who was killed in a car accident. The reporter thought it would be a good idea to report the events of the funeral as they happen over Twitter.

One phone went off during a funeral service & unfortunatly the ring tone was "Staying Alive "

Turn it off at the Movies

Everyone pays good money to relax unwind & escape into a movie so to be jolted back into the real world by a mobile phone ringing is guaranteed to annoy everyone in the picture theatre .

TURN IT OFF or don't go to the movies.

Dont be rude at the Dinner Table

If you have organised a date with friends /family or a new partner you do it because you want to sit and chat together over dinner not sit there bored while the others talk or text on their phone to people who are not there .

It has happened on dates where the couple hardly talked to each other at the table because they were both busy on their phones.

At the dinner table at home families should have quality time without mobile phones so they can enjoy each others company.

While in a crowd

If your phone rings walk away from the crowd to talk

Do you Talk when visiting the toilet ?

Most people think that this is one place where it is really gross to use your cell phone especially when on a business call -- how do you disguise the flush of the toilet or being one of the 855000

who has dropped their phone in the toilet ?! Ok that figure is just people in Britain never mind the rest of the world !

Heard about a story of someone who works for a mobile phone manufacturer ,being in the ladies room one day and someone in a stall next to her asking that people not flush since she was on an important call. !!

Most people would prefer not to hear a phone conversation while in the bathroom

Pay Attention to the Doctor etc

It is so rude to book an appointment at the

Doctors

Dentist

Hairdressers

Spa and then spend time on your mobile rather than letting them do their job + you don't get to concentrate on what they are saying.

At school or college spend the time learning in the classroom not on your phone.

Sport & phones don't mix

While playing or watching sport is not a good time for your mobile phone to be ringing wherever you are in the world.

Nor queing at a business or shopping .

Talking loudly on a train or bus will really annoy others as well .

Learn to be brief & as quiet as you can while in public.

There are many benefits to having a mobile phone of course and lives have been saved so make sure you practice mobile phone etiquite and NEVER text while driving/

Please feel free to add a story or comments here especially if your life has been effected by any of these situations.

haha... i was once caught for texting while driving. Well, that was the last time I did that. From that day onwards, I have not done anything stupid while driving!

Excellent hub! Where I live you can be fined up to 500.00 if you are caught texting or using a cell phone while driving. Weddings are one place that drives me nuts when you are right in the middle of a ceremony and all you hear is a cell phone going off.

It's funny. This seems like common sense, but people just don't get it! Especially the crowd part. I actually saw somebody using speakerphone while in a crowd. wow.

KoffeeKlatch Gals 11 months ago

Truer words were never spoken. For some reason there are many people out there who lose their manners when they stick a phone next to their head.

The examples in this hub are proof that excessive use of a cell phone DOES destroy brain cells! ;D

My doctors office has signs up in all of the patients waiting rooms in big bold letters saying ,"NO CELL PHONE USE!!" I don't even own a cell phone, but guess what, MY DOCTOR DOES! He answers his cell right in the middle of examining me and says, "Uh Huh, Yeah, Uh Huh, ok honey I'll pick up the bread, the eggs, and the milk on the way home, I love you too!" I was like, "What the F#@*?"

How Rude ! Especially when you are paying TOP DOLLAR for his time and attention & he is the one with the sign up!

I can't believe people would use phones at a funeral. If they did that in Scotland then I might just use mine too ..... to call 999. The drag the mourners off them LOL

But seriously the use of phones while driving is criminal. No excuses for that. That call or text can wait.

Thanks for all comments , I hate it when serving people at the checkout & they talk on their phone the whole time.
