Tunnel Creek Cave - Windjana Gorge Camping
73Tunnel Creek cave
If you are traveling up north in the Kimberley's near the Gibb River road make sure you allow enough time to visit some of the oldest caves in Western Australia.
Tunnel Creek Cave is an amazing place to visit wading through water waist deep to get to the other end about 750 metres long .
The water wasn't too cold which was a surprise & we didn't know there were crocodiles in the water till after we had been there !
Make sure you wear old closed in shoes , swimmers or clothes you don't mind getting wet.
A torch is needed in the cave.
Children might want a floatie or a ride on someones back to go through the cave.
Where is Tunnel Creek Cave
Tunnel Creek Cave is 112 kilometres from Fitzroy Crossing, 180 kilometres from Derby via Gibb River road, 36 kilometres south-east of Windjana Gorge.
No camping is allowed but there are toilets available .
Camping is available up the road at Windjana Gorge

Windjana Gorge Camping
Do you feel like you are all gorged out by now after visiting Karajini National Park and many others ?
Are you tired of peering over the edge looking down at the water below you ?
Windjana Gorge is different to the others .
It is only a short walk from the car park to the water - You are there at the waters edge a 3.5 k walk along the waters edge of Lennard River looking up at the Napier cliffs up to 100 metres high rather than gazing down for a change.
The best time to visit is between May and September as it can be inaccessible other times.
Even now it is best in a 4 wheel drive as you go through quite a lot of water coming from Fitzroy Crossing .
There wasn't as much water the other side heading to Derby.
As you stroll along the waters edge watch out for the fresh water crocodiles basking in the sun !
Camping at Windjana Gorge
Camping at Windjana Gorge is well worth it for a stunning Sunset as well as an early morning walk alonong the Lennard River seeing the many freshwater crocodiles if you can spare the time.
There are facilities there even a shower ! The ranger collects camping fees of an evening .
Like other placs it would pay to arrive early in the peak season to get a camping spot.
Windjana Gorge
WARNING
When it says DO NOT DRIVE AT NIGHT ---- DO NOT DRIVE AT NIGHT -
There is a very good reason for this . At night is when all the kangaroos , bulls & cows wander on the road .
When I suggested to carry on to Derby for dinner at sunset I forgot about it being dark on the way back & it was like playing dodgums as you cannot see the black bulls until it is almost too late.

Interesting hub. Windjana gorge looks interesting. I would not mind seeing some crocodiles, from a distance. The snout look different from the ones on alligators in the US.
Are crocodiles considered food animals? Alligator meat is served in some parts of the US, mainly in the states with alligators.
wow, looks like fun!
What an amazing place, great hub, thanks.

This sounds like an awesome area to visit. I did a lot of spelunking in England, but there were NO CROCODILES! Probably won't be visiting! Enjoyed the hub.
